There are 2 main ways to get to Coniston. Both usually enter the route at Junction 36 of the M6 motorway.

If you would like to approach from the south, follow roads to Barrow In Furness (A590) until you reach Greenodd. Join the A5092 to Lowick and then the A5084 to Coniston.

If you would like to approach from the north, follow roads to Ambleside (A591) and then join the A593 to Coniston.

Both routes offer spectacular views. From the south, you travel up the west side of Coniston Water, with the Old Man ahead of you. From the North, Lake Windermere passes you by on the left and Langdale Pikes are visible. The roads are generally quieter on the southern route.

If coming from the south, The Ship Inn is on your left hand side about a mile before you enter the village centre. If from the north, head south out of the village (Broughton Road). The Ship Inn is on your right hand side at the top of the first hill outside the village
